To Serve and Protect?

Police Arrest Meditating Protestors

Police officers are charged with keeping the peace and protecting the public. These are noble and honorable pursuits. However, its has become increasingly common to hear reports of police brutality.

Since the Occupy Wall Street  movement began in September, reports of brutality by officers appear almost daily. Traditionally many of these atrocities went unreported, however, people today have increased access to cameras. Almost everyone has a phone with a camera now, and they are using them to reveal the real truth behind officers actions. Witness video has become increasingly useful in making cops responsible for their actions. I hope that this one day leads to changes in the police system, as well as a breaking of the Blue Code of Silence. Please, if you witness or are a victim of police brutality REPORT IT! If possible, try and document the incident. Take pictures, or videos. Get signed statements from anyone else present. Together we can reverse this tide of vicious oppression.
